China’s Opening Plenary Speech

In their speech, the People’s Republic of China makes the claim that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development “should be at the heart of international cooperation and, of course, the first priority of our session.” They continue to call for the international community to work together to focus on sustainable development and help developing countries as well as respect a “country’s independent choice of a development model.” China also plans to focus on addressing poverty, infrastructure and urbanization, global partnerships, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. China continues in their speech listing the ways in which they have contributed to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in their country and how they have provided COVID-19-related assistance to other countries and international organizations. They also commit to continuing to build global peace and end their speech by reminding the international community of their moral responsibility to help all people live better lives.
