Ethiopia’s Opening Plenary Speech

Ethiopia’s Opening Plenary Speech

Ethiopia begins by thanking the chairs of the General Assembly and the keynote speakers, Dr. McBride and Secretary-General Guterres. They continue by calling forth the theme of the conference, recognizing that the Sustainable Development Goals cannot be achieved without the cooperation of every member-state. Ethiopia lists the progress they have made towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals before the pandemic such as their National Agricultural Plan and Comprehensive African Agricultural Plan. Ethiopia looks forward to continuing to work in partnership with the United Nations to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. They also strongly urge member-states to take into consideration the framework for the immediate socio-economic response to COVID-19 which has been released by the United Nations. Ethiopia ends its speech by calling for unity and action to “ensure a brighter future for this planet and its people.”
